As all the journals in this series, this journal is bound in a supple, mahogany-brown, oil-tanned, delicious leather. It's one of my all-time favorite leather tans, and I am proud to feature it in this series.

One of my favorite things to do to this leather is to distress it!  I use half-round files, rat-tailed files, rotary spurs, wood-burning irons, torch flames and even shoe polish to accomplish this.  It gives the leather such character to begin with...before YOU put YOUR character marks into it!

I also love to work with latches.  Forever, I've been using a leather strap as part of a closing apparatus, but upon discovering this latch idea, I've become more drawn to the journals I make with this kind of closure.  The only down-side to it is that it limits the user to keeping the journal thin enough to continue to be able to close.  If one were to add lots of ephemera to the pages, the book will thicken, and therefore the components of the latch will not line up any more.

The satin-black leather is yummy, too!  I couldn't help but to add accent pieces of it for the spine and the front.  It is so smooth, smells great, and it's nice and supple, too.  Honestly, I cannot stop petting this journal due to its tactile appeal!  I hope you love on it like I have been.
