Istanbul is twice the size of New York City with twice the population as well!  HUGE city, and I had the pleasure of roaming those streets for 2 whole weeks!

Istanbul is known as the "City of Seven Hills".  The land straddles the Bosphorus Strait, spanning 2 continents: Europe and Asia.  I loved walking across bridges, along paved pathways by the water, and up the hills to the most iconic and beloved mosques, including the Sülemaniye, the Hagia Sophia, and the Sultan Ahmet (Blue Mosque).

This journal is bound in a piece of bison hide that I have cut into 7 different pieces to represent the 7 hills of that city.  The blue spine represents the Bosphorus, and the crescent moon on the front cover pays tribute to the Turkish flag.

There are simply TOO many things to share about my experience in Istanbul, but to pick just one for the sake of this piece, I chose to celebrate the beautiful terrain of land in that region.  Nature always inspires me, and I love that nature could be found all over Istanbul, despite it being such a large metropolis!

Especially Gülhane Park, which borders the walls surrounding Topkopı Palace.
