When you work with leather, you end up having lots of conversations about what fellow craftsmen do with leather, and inevitably, saddle making comes up.
Now, I don't know much about saddles and much less about sewing machines, but every time I went to the Amish country in Holmes County, Ohio to pick out leather from Weaver Leather, I have extensive conversations about horse tack.
When I looked at the different hardware that cowboys and saddle-makers must use, I got inspired! The brass ring and rod that make up the toggle in this piece were derived from what I saw the saddle-makers doing, although they never made a toggle closure.
Ever since that inspiration came, I have enjoyed making this design, but I'm careful not to do it too much...for fear of overusing it to death!
