Ushuaia is the southernmost town in the world, and the locals call it "The End of the Earth"!
I was there with my boyfriend during one of our port stops on the cruise to Antarctica. I LOVED that town. It felt like Jackson Hole but right on the water!
The mountains in Patagonia are breathtakingly gorgeous, and knowing that I was standing in the middle of the archipelago of Tiera del Fuego, I had perpetual goosebumps and kept having to choke back some tears.
Such a special place, Ushuaia. When I walked to the town center, I noticed a monument that looked very interesting. It was a large bird (an Albatross?) that had domed its wings over a circle that had a plaque in the ground in the center. The plaque was a compass in the design of a compass rose, but rather than pointing at the directionals of navigation, it listed names of peoples who discovered the land, explored the land, built and who inhabited the land.
I loved standing right there, as many before me had, and I finally let some tears flow.
