Like "Tig", this journal is inspired by the conversations I've had with saddle makers. The two clips on the front cover are used for all kinds of different horse tack and reins, and the rod...not so much! I just needed the rod to complete my vision!
When I get the clips in, they are shiny as they are nickel-plated steel. To get to the steel so that I can rust the metal, I have to drop the clips into my etching tank and etch off the plating. Take like 20 mintues.
The rusting, however, can take hours. I have a chemical rust patina, and I can apply layer after air-dried layer with a paint brush to force a rust to occur. I did it that way for years, until I finally met someone who said, "Why don't you just leave them outside for a couple days and just squirt them with vinegar and water!"
That way is more fun and more natural!
This badass journal is titled "Victor" because it was once said to me by a close friend when I was in a terribly dark place: "Victor, Not Victim!"
